Purpose of the Post
Under the guidance of, and working closely with, the Gulf Area Representative, and as part of an integrated (public and private sector)approach to resource mobilization in the region, develops and manages strategic partnerships with foundations, funds and corporations in the Gulf Area (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain), in order to maximise resources and support for UNICEF programmes to achieve results for children.
Major duties and responsibilities
• Identify potential new strategic partnerships with foundations, funds and corporations, and pursue the establishment of such new partnerships.
• Manage existing partnerships with foundations, funds and corporations, ensuring optimal stewardship of the relationship and overseeing the management of contributions.
• Keep up to date with latest developments in the Gulf Area’s resource mobilization environment, and contribute to the development of UNICEF’s integrated (public and private sector)resource mobilization strategy for the region, with a focus on foundations, funds and corporations.
• Manages supervised staff for maximum results; ensures work plans are developed, monitored and evaluated, and ensures objectives and targets are achieved; identifies problems or alternative courses of action to improve delivery of results; leads staff to assure optimal performance.
• Provide support as required to the Gulf Area Representative in her / his management of the Dubai Office.
• Perform other duties as required to contribute to the achievement of UNICEF’s goals for resource mobilization in the Gulf Area, as part of an integrated approach to resource mobilization.
• Managing key partnerships will entail on the part of the post holder strategic choices and decisions about how to engage with and service key partners, which in turn has an impact on resources mobilised for UNICEF, and the organizations’ reputation.
• The post holder will regularly make recommendations to the Gulf Area Representative and UNICEF senior management on the development and stewardship of partnerships with foundations, funds and corporations, as well as corresponding strategy. These are important to maximize the potential of such partnerships in terms of resources and support for UNICEF programmes to achieve results for children, within an integrated (public and private sector)approach to resource mobilization.
• Especially on the most important strategic partnerships in the Gulf Area, notably with major foundations and funds, the incumbent will receive close direction from the Gulf Area Representative, but in all areas will be expected to exercise good judgement and take initiative without close supervision.
• This Post is office-based with regular travel across the Gulf Area to meet with UNICEF partners as well as occasional travel to UNICEF regional and HQ offices.
• The post holder will frequently work internally with country offices implementing funds and colleagues in the Gulf Area for purposes of coordination and will additionally work with the Gulf Area Representative, PFP and PARMO, and the MENA Regional Office.
