On behalf of our client one of the leading Specialist Hospitals in Saudi Arabia we have an opening for a Haemodialysis Staff Nurse.
Reporting to the Head Nurse you will provide a comprehensive care and treatments to acute and chronic haemodialysis patients and care to the unit and haemodialysis machines
Duties & Responsibilities
• Prepare the haemodialysis machine with all equipments needed prior to dialysis sessions.
• Assess, plan and carries out individualized comprehensive care to the patients, taking into account the physical, psychological and cultural background.
• Prepares, administers and charts all medication in medication sheet.
• Understands the therapeutic effects of medication, dosages, contra-indications and adverse reaction of these drugs.
• Maintains accountability and accuracy of narcotic and control drugs.
• Familiar with all emergency operational procedures including machine malfunction during dialysis, this involves knowledge of the back-up system for returning patients blood should pump failure occur.
• Able to safely and efficiently operate a variety of haemodialysis machines used in the unit, this includes knowledge and proficiency in handling all of the equipment used on the machines.
• Assessment of AV access, cannulation of AV fistulas or AV grafts which require skill in venipuncture.
• Sets up equipment and assists physician with insertion of double lumen femoral catheters.
• Records on patient flow sheet any reactions and the progress of patients during dialysis treatment.
• Recognizes any abnormal changes in patient condition and takes appropriate lifesaving measures.
• Seeks advice from dietary and social services for any problems raised regarding patient in end stage renal disease.
• Participates effectively in nursing meetings, education, and infection control and quality improvements activities.
• Participates in patient and family education; call patient educator when needed.
• Perform other applicable task and duties assigned with the realm of his/her knowledge skills and duties.
• Obtains and documents patient’s pre-dialysis vital signs, weight and patient’s physical assessment.
• Inspects and documents patient’s dialysis access.
• Administers anticoagulant according to unit protocols and prescription.
• Adjust blood flow rates according to established protocols and prescription.
• Calculates and adjusts fluid removal rates according to patient’s weight gain.
• Monitors patients and equipment, every 30 minutes, respond to alarm and readjust treatment parameters.
• Responds appropriately to dialysis related emergencies such as hypotensive episodes, needle displacement or infiltration, clotting episodes, blood leaks, bleeding, air emboli, etc.
• Records post dialysis vital signs, temperature, weight and access status.
• Participates actively with primary patients care.
