Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Resident. - Future Career Generator

On behalf of our client one of the leading Specialist Hospitals in Saudi Arabia we have an opening for an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Resident.



Responsible to the Head of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).



You will be responsible to provide appropriate medical care to critically ill patients. This includes, but is not limited to support of various system functions and correction of metabolic disorders, monitoring and surveillance of the critically ill, making use of the appropriate diagnostic facilities and administration of therapeutic interventions as approved by the attending consultant.



Duties & Responsibilities



• Performs the professional duties of intensivist in adherence to the delineation of privilege maintained by critical care medicine privilege. Privileging may differ between intensivist, depending on the efficiency and skills of the particular individual.

• Assesses patients admitted to the ICU. This includes obtaining a relevant medical history, clinical examination and request of relevant diagnostic tests.

• Supports of vital functions in patient with cardiorespiratory compromise or patients presenting with an emergency that requires an immediate intervention.

• Notifies the consultant physician or ICU consultant of newly admitted patients or of any significant change in the status of previously admitted patients.

• Carries out the treatment plan formulated by the consultant physician/ intensivist in charge.

• Responds to changes in the physical status of critically ill patients with the appropriate intervention as guided by a consultant’s opinion if needed.

• Responds to requests for help or advice relayed to by the nurses or respiratory therapists involved in patient care.

• Contributes to continuous Education Program.

• Contributes to Quality Improvement Program.

• Provides technical advice and guidance to nursing staff and as required provides orientation/training in new techniques and procedures.

• Keeps current with new procedure in the field of critical care.

• Makes daily rounds and performs the examination on ICU patients.

• Orders diagnostic laboratory and x-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing relevant therapy.

• Participates in the daily meeting for Intensive Care and Internal Medicine staff.

• Participates in the Medical Staff committees as assigned.

• Performs others miscellaneous duties as directed by the Chief of the Intensive Care Unit.
