On behalf of our client one of the leading Specialist Hospitals in Saudi Arabia we have an opening for a Nursery/ NICU Staff Nurse. Reporting to the Head Nurse.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Collaborates with patient/ members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care based on the patient's physical, psychological changes and age related requirements.
• Transcribes physician's orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Prepares, administers and documents the administration of all medications as prescribed by the physician.
• Maintains accountability for narcotic and controlled drugs.
• Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations, initiates emergency resuscitative measures and assist with codes.
• Ensures contact with the physicians for the purpose of reporting important information or clarifying orders.
• Maintains a safe, clean and organized environment for the patient, family, visitors and staff.
• Demonstrates priority setting and time liners in responding to patient needs.
• Evaluates quality of nursing care being delivered and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Participates in presenting patient care conferences.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with other members of the health care team.
• Maintains infection control and safety awareness functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when needed.
• Acts as a role model for other staff members and ensures that all staff is maintaining professional behavior on duty.
• Ensures the next shift receives a complete and pertinent report that facilitates continuity of care.
• Participates in disaster drills and codes.
• Uses verbal and non-verbal communication that conveys respect for the patient, family, visitors and staff.
• Communicates verbal, written information in an accurate, concise and timely manner.
• Receives baby delivered by NSVD or Caesarian Section.
• Performs direct patient care to include resuscitation, giving Apgar score, cord clamping, bathing, vital statistics measurements, eye care, VS monitoring.
• Assess and identifies newborn problems like RDS, TTN, Meconium Aspiration, Diaphragmatic Hernia, Hypoglycemia, Apnea to include babies with congenital abnormalities.
• Sets up equipment and assists in doing special procedure like intubation and extubation, chest tube insertion, UAC/UVC insertion, lumbar tap, blood exchange transfusion.
• Knowledgeable in the use of cardiac monitor, syringe pumps, infusion pumps, incubator, phototherapy, datascope, glucometer, transilluminator, O2 analyzer, suction apparatus and mechanical ventilator and Nasal CPAP.
• Performs arterial puncture, IV insertion, blood extraction under aseptic technique.
• Performs special procedure like NGT insertion, catheterization, suctioning, gastric lavage, gastric gavage and heel prick.
• Accompanies in transporting sick babies to other health care facilities.
• Gives health education to mothers regarding breastfeeding, hygiene, cord care, follow up clinic appointments, and vaccination schedule.
• Vaccinates newborn with Hep. B and BCG.
• Deals with babies’ pre and post circumcision.
