Teaching Assistant (TA) - Hayat Universal School

To support the Class Teacher in his/ her role in designing, teaching and assessing the educational program and for establishing and implementing expectations for student conduct in the classroom education program, through:

• Developing and maintaining a positive, respectful working relationship with each other;

• Following guidelines established by the school to protect the safety and well being of children and youth;

• Maintaining positive, supportive, professional relationships within the education community.



Main Duties:

Direct Classroom Support



Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant may:

• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations;

• Supervise students in the classroom, on the school campus and off-campus at school - related activities;

• Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help each master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by the teacher;

• Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and other materials in order to prevent injuries and damage;

• Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations;

• Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress, understanding that teachers retain responsibility for evaluating and reporting on the progress of the student;

• Conduct and support on -campus and off -campus co-curricular and extracurricular activities, as directed by the teacher;

• Manage classroom procedures, such as book exchanges as well as collecting money from students for school-related projects;

• Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress including attending the support meeting with the classroom teacher and parents after school hours to translate Arabic to English and English to Arabic, as required;

• Provide extra assistance in Arabic to non-English-speaking students at the KG b and KG1 level, as directed by the teacher (applicable to TA's who speak Arabic);

• Cover the classroom in the absence of teacher;

• Carry out other duties as assigned within the scope of the Teacher Assistant role.



Additional TA Responsibilities:

The Teaching Assistant can be expected to:

• Communicate about assigned duties with the classroom teacher in order to coordinate instructional efforts;

• Maintain a positive professional relationship with parents for the benefit of their children, including translation support with parents when required by the classroom teacher;

• Provide the school with official documents related to their education, training and certification, to enable the school to meet legal and accreditation requirements;

• Attend and take an active role in staff meetings;

• Participate in professional development organized by the school, including attending Saturday school, not to exceed five (5) sessions for the school year;

• Communicate concerns, ideas and information with colleagues, students, school administration, parents and community in a professional and constructive manner;

• Carry out other duties as assigned within the scope of the Teacher Assistant role.



School - Wide Support and Responsibilities:



In support of School-Wide Programs, a Teacher Assistant may also be required to:

• Help in the development and maintenance of the school environment by decorating boards and other areas of the schools as directed for routine and special events;

• Assist in the delivery of the Guided Reading Program;

• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students;

• Provide additional support services as required within the school day;

• Participate in school trips upon request;

• Carry out other duties as assigned within the scope of the Teacher Assistant role.
