Job Description:
Occidental Petroleum of Qatar (OPQL) is pleased to offer a potential opportunity to a creative, knowledgeable, motivated individual to fill the position of Planning Engineer in Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar). As the Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting Planning and Asset Development related activities within the Business Unit.
Oxy Qatar has recently initiated the Phase 5 Field Development Plan (FDP) of the Idd El Shargi North Dome Field (ISND), offshore Qatar. The ISND Phase 5 FDP comprises drilling over 200 additional wells and installing the associated facilities required to support them. Added facilities will include minimum facilities platforms, wellhead jackets, fluid processing equipment, pipeline debottlenecking, and water source projects. Combined, the development activities are expected to constitute an aggregate investment exceeding $3 billion. Clearly, the Planning Team will play a key role in administering and optimizing the FDP.
Responsibilities
• Acting as an integral part of both Planning and Asset Development, the Planning Engineer will incorporate financial and technical analysis in a cross-department integrated capacity.
• Coordinate closely with all stakeholders on reserve evaluations, production forecasting, AFE generation, and the tracking of both production and capex/opex spending.
• Develop a system evaluating a rolling 5-year activity plan for all operated fields
• Evaluate resource usage and identify opportunities for cost optimization
• Provide support on various reporting requirements for the host government
• Drive continuous improvement and increase efficiency in planning related activities
Results from the primary responsibilities have high visibility and will provide the selected candidate with a solid understanding of the Business Unit’s offshore operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline
• Minimum five years experience in Oil & Gas industry and two in Planning-experience in operations and/or reservoir engineering preferred
• Understanding of petroleum economics and financial metrics
• Familiarity with Production Sharing Agreements (PSA) or similar contracts.
• Experience with commercial petroleum project economic software, preferably PEEP
• Experience with production forecasting tools (OFM, DSS or similar)
• Strong analytical and computer skills (Excel macro experience a plus)
• Ability to interact effectively with cross functional team members and outside personnel at various levels of responsibility, and handle a variety of tasks within the multidisciplinary role
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle several concurrent projects
• Must be self-motivated and adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
