Supervises, coordinates and monitors the Refinery environment and loss control programmes and provides specialist advice and assistance on environment and waste management aspects to plant departments. The key accountabilities for the position are listed below:
- Prepares the annual environment protection plan and objectives
- Assists sections and departments to establish individual environmental performance standards.
- Reviews the design of existing facilities, modifications and new projects
- Assists in the evaluation of tenders for environmental monitoring contracts
- Identifies and agrees appropriate environmental assessment methodologies
- Plans and organises environmental and waste audits and inspections.
- Supervises environmental impact assessments
- Manages and reviews environment audits
- Ensures proper recording of environmental data
- Reviews the daily observation reports of the Environment Section staff
- Organises and participates in a wide range of environmental audits
- Develops and establishes specifications for environmental monitoring equipment
- Reports undesirable conditions and their implications with recommendations for improvement
- Responds quickly and autonomously to environmental incidents
- Coordinates, monitors and advises on the safe storage and treatment of hazardous wastes.
- Liaises with police, government authorities and insurance agents to facilitate investigations on environmental issues
- Directs, supervises and controls the activities of assigned personnel, including allocating work and determining priorities.
- Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and results
- Reviews and develops in-house procedures and updates them periodically on environment issues
- Ensures the availability of appropriate procedures to deal with environmental emergencies,
- Develops and implements periodic environmental protection and management of educational programmes
- Educates, influences and persuades all concerned departments to lead and promote sustainability and environmental improvement.
- Encourages innovative ideas that implement whole-life cycle thinking and good practice guidance for minimizing environmental impacts
- Prepares a preliminary annual budget for the Environment Section.
- Ensures that strict control is exercised over expenditures, and provides written justifications in advance of any variances with approved budgets.
- Establishes, implements and reviews comprehensive audits, inspections, investigations and testing programmes
- Prepares root cause analysis of environment incidents and accidents.
- Liaises with the Training and Development Section to develop and provide training programmes for Emirati National Developees.
- Provides guidance and counselling to Environment Section staff, with a clear objective of career development.
Ensures there is provision of formal and informal feedback, appraisal and succession planning for subordinate staff
