• meeting clients to discuss their requirements and ideas
• developing designs to suit clients' needs, their budget and the type of building
• preparing initial sketches for the client to approve
• Preparing quantities, working out costs and preparing estimates
• Creating detailed drawings from the initial sketches.
• Finding fittings, furniture, fabrics, and wall and floor coverings.
• Inspecting and surveying buildings.
• Setting schedules for the project.
• Researching and drawing up rough plans.
• Developing detailed designs and choosing materials.
• Supervising the work as it is carried out.
What is the work like?
A designer may be asked to create or renovate spaces within:
• offices
• Retail showrooms.
• hotels and restaurants
