Job Purpose:Responsible for gathering data required to prepare detailed Estimates, perform comparison of scope, and quantity take off.
Principal Accountabilities:
•Reviews tender bill of quantities & discusses in order to ensure that all required elements are present.
•Estimates resources required such as direct labor, construction equipment etc for each activity to enable them to be accurately costed.
•Prepares estimates for direct costs including labor wages, equipment hire and all other costs etc using judgment to ensure that the relevant & appropriate figures are applied.
•Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
•Reviews sub-contract inquiries & quotations converting them to the same level to enable effective comparative consideration.
•Solicits and maintains communication with subcontractors and vendors.
•Prepares subcontractor bid packages.
•Transmits addenda and other bid information to subcontractors.
•Submits bids and budgets by the bid deadline.
•Reviews bid requirements thoroughly and requests additional information as needed.
•Ensures that we have the proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day.
•Includes value- engineering ideas on every bid.
•Develops RFI’s and clarifications to ensure adequate coverage.
•Understands how to fit subs to the size/ scope of project.
•Understands thoroughly the scope for specific trades assigned.
•Prepares estimate related technical proposal deliverables (. equipment lists, manpower histograms etc) for insertion in the proposal.
•Prepares indirect cost estimate and reviews the technical proposal under the supervision of department manager or head.
•Assists the manager or head in interfacing & communicating with the client in order to ensure effective negotiation.
•Assists the manager or head in ensuring effective post award hand over.
•Studies tender documentation in order to gain a clear overall understanding and to fully appreciate the requirements for specific technical areas and to appreciate the relevant construction methods.
•Guides and develops subordinate estimators to ensure the quality of input provided and assists in their personal development.
