The Role
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible to manage the connectivity of infrastructure systems including servers and virtualisation systems to ensure the stable operation of the organisation's IT assets. This includes configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimising all new and existing hardware, software and virtualisation requirements. You should have the skill set to manage infrastructure virtualization services like Hyper V, VMware, System Center, VCloud Automation center, Private Cloud and platform / DB / OS services.
Responsibilities include:
Managing and ensuring the optimal operation of all infrastructure services including servers, guests, patch management etc
Managing and ensuring the effectiveness of server and virtualisation systems solutions, including Server Operating Systems (Solaris, Linux, Microsoft)
Understanding hardware setup, configuration, ability to handle / patch etc
Deploying methodologies for testing server, storage and virtualisation systems performance and providing performance statistics and reports
Managing the infrastructure services for the business to ensure maximum availability and performance at all times
Managing and ensuring effectiveness of server and virtualisation systems solutions, including Server Operating Systems (Solaris, Linux, Microsoft), Infrastructure based server solutions including Zimbra, Exchange, SharePoint, JBOSS and others as well as virtualisation systems including Hyper-V, Oracle VM, VMware, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop.
Skills & Qualifications Required
- University degree in the field of computer science, engineering or information systems (Master's preferred)- Certifications in virtualisation Hyper V, VMware and Automation- Certifications in server technologies (at least 1 of Solaris, Linux or Microsoft Windows)- Certifications in virtualisation technologies in either Hyper-V, VMware, OVM or Xen- Certification in ITIL and Security (desirable)- At 3-7 years' experience managing and configuring enterprise server and virtualisation environments (server, storage, application and desktop)- Experience in managing or maintaining a large server environments, especially those in multiple data centers with active/active and active/passive configurations- Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards- Proven project planning and management experience- Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws- Good enough know ledge of Tools, to get reports / automation- Good working knowledge of ITIL, especially Systems Management practices, ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 best practices and standards and how they are applied to IT.- Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required- Excellent product knowledge on virtualization with design / architect skills and deep administration knowledge- Thorough understanding, working knowledge and exposure of Hyper V, VMware and Management Layer, System Center, vCloud Automation Center etc- Knowledge of monitoring and automation- Aware of scratch building, managing standards, design and implementation of different flavors of Hypervisors- Familiar with Patch management and capability of managing multi data centers- Good technical knowledge
