CH2M HILL Structural Engineer/Specialist - Doha, Qatar



Job Purpose



CH2M HILL has been retained as the programme manager for the Qatar Public Works Authority (PWA) Inner Doha Resewerage Strategy Implementation (IDRIS) Programme. IDRIS is PWA’s flagship drainage project.



The components of IDRIS include:

• Approximately 70 km of new microtunnelled interceptor sewers associated with gravitation of dozens of existing pump stations

• Approximately 45 km of new deep tunnel trunk sewer and appurtenances

• Terminal tunnel pump station

• New Doha South Sewage Treatment Works

• Treated sewage effluent return pump station and transmission pipeline



CH2M HILL is looking for an experienced structural engineer to join our IDRIS Programme Management team in the role of Structural Engineer. Responsibilities of this role include:

• Assist with review of design/ build Tenderers’ Technical Proposal submittals for the defined construction contracts.

• Assist with review of D/B Contractor’s preliminary and detailed design submittals.

• Assist with resolution of structural issues which arise during the construction of the IDRIS facilities.

• Provide other programme support as required.



Job Responsibilities/Accountabilites



Conduct reviews of structural designs, and verification of calculations and assumptions provided by the Contractors’ submittals for underground structures such as:

• Precast segmental tunnel linings (steel rebar and fibres)

• Pipes used in microtunnelling and pipe jacking

• Support systems for deep shafts and shallow excavations

• Precast and/or cast-in-place concrete for access shaft structures, hydraulic structures and chambers

• Sprayed concrete temporary linings and cast-in-situ permanent RC linings

• Assist with resolution of structural issues which arise in the field during the construction

• Provide assistance on other IDRIS programme components.



Basic Qualifications



Job Requirements/Qualifications/Experience



Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

Minimum 15 years prior experience, including deep structures design and construction troubleshooting. Prior Middle East and tunnelling experience preferred but not required.

Professional registration/certification (Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, etc.) highly preferred.

Prior experience with the design of large civil structures in rock formations of varying degrees of hardness and aggressive ground conditions. Experience with water retaining structures and associated design codes is essential.

Must have strong communication and people skills, be self-motivated/self-directed and have the willingness to take on new challenges.
