Senior Country Economist - Operations - Islamic Development Bank (IDB)

Role:

To contribute in the policy dialogue during MCPS process with emphasis on macro-economic issues and development challenges facing Member Country (MC). To monitor and undertake periodic reviews of socio-economic developments in (MCs), including global/ regional markets and trends relevant to MCs. To be reference on all economic information related to the Member Countries (MCs) and the Region covered; to carry out country/regional diagnostic work and Economic Sector Work (ESW).

ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

*  Substantially contribute in multi-task teams for dialogue with the MCs on sector, IDBG strategy (e.g., Sector, MCPS, etc.) based on underlying diagnostic work, and Economic Sector Work (ESW).
* Contribute in development of departmental strategy and the annual Country Work Program.
* Contribute in the development of special programs, and initiatives of the Bank.
* Contribute to annual Departmental planning by providing input on initiatives and projects in his/her area.
* Analyze global and regional economic issues of relevance to the Bank and their implications.
* Assess economic development of MCs, regional and global level to pinpoint key opportunities for IDB's future engagements.
* Conduct economic assessment of IDB's operations, programmers and strategies in MCs and Regional Level.
* Prepare Country Economic Work (CEW) and contribute to ESW and policy papers.
* Contribute in reviews of all country economic reports and related data.
* Contribute to country portfolio performance reviews, and assessments of the ongoing and completed MCPSs
* Undertaken analysis to ensure the relevance of IDB programs & projects to the development needs of MCs;
* Participate in Regional Networks (ReNs) and provide inputs for enhancing projects quality at entry.
* Participate in major country/project Missions and lead operational Missions to collect baseline data for assessment of project viability, outcomes, and impacts.
* Prepare specialized economic studies and disseminating the findings in the Bank and outside where relevant.
* Review, and internally disseminate key findings of ESW conducted by other MDBs and IFIs in MCs
* Identify and share key lessons and best practices of other development partners on their country/region level engagements.
* Establish networks internally with economists across IDBG and externally with international organizations, universities regarding analytical work, strategic approaches, and operational experiences.
* Contribute to training, coaching and mentoring junior staff, and fostering teamwork environment.
* Represent the Bank in international forums as when as required.
* Prepare and produce high quality policy papers, regional studies, strategy/operational reports,
* Prepare regular and ad-hock reports as desired by the management and also the Board and for discussions external fora.
* Prepare Country/Sector brief for the IDB management during high level dialogue with senior officials of MCs.
